The #2 seed UCONN Huskies women’s basketball team absolutely thrashed the #15 Arkansas St. Red Wolves, 103-34; a 3-1 scoring ratio. UCONN won the 1st quarter 34-5. They were especially good shooting the ball in this game making 40 of 68 total shots (59%), including 13 of 28 from three (46%). Three players led the way, including Azzi Fudd (27 points on 10 of 13 shooting), Sarah Strong (20 points on 9 of 10 shooting), and Ashlynn Shade (20 points on 8 of 11 shooting off the bench). Those three players shot a combined 27 for 34, or 79%(!), nearly doubling the total score of the entire Arkansas St. team!
Arkansas St. was clearly outmatched, but historically poor shooting was the culprit. Normally on a shot chart you can’t see all of the made shots because there are too many shots taken from the same or similar location on the court (especially in the paint) that you can’t see them all. But in this game, the Red Wolves shooting was so bad (12 of 70, or 17%), you can see all 12 of their makes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shot chart like this before.
